Multi-year protection, engineered for salt

Professional-grade ceramic systems for gelcoat, marine paint, and automotive finishes — protection measured in years, not weeks.

Water beading tightly on a ceramic coated boat hull

What it is: Ceramic coating is a professionally applied, chemically bonded layer of silica that cures into a hard, hydrophobic shell over gelcoat or automotive paint. On South Florida boats and cars it replaces wax, resists UV chalking and salt, makes washdowns faster, and lasts years instead of weeks.

Scope: Boats 20–100+ ft and vehicles of every kind. Every coating starts with full decontamination and correction; a coated finish is only as good as the surface under it.

A ceramic coating bonds to your gelcoat or paint at the molecular level and cures into a hard, glass-like layer that salt, UV, and exhaust soot can't easily touch. Washdowns get faster, water sheets off instead of spotting, and deep gloss lasts season after season. We install marine-specific systems on boats and automotive-grade systems on cars — always over a fully corrected surface.

Why coat in South Florida

Between the UV index, salt spray, and summer storms, Palm Beach County is one of the hardest environments in the world on a finish. Wax lasts weeks here. A professional ceramic coating is a different category entirely — a measurable, sacrificial glass-like layer that takes the abuse so your gelcoat and clear coat don't.

On a vessel, that means the waterline releases scum with a light wipe instead of an acid wash. On a car, it means brake dust and lovebugs rinse off before they etch. Either way, every wash after coating is faster, safer, and gentler on the finish.

Surface prep is the coating

A coating locks in whatever is underneath it — including swirl marks and oxidation, if they aren't corrected first. That's why every Zea ceramic installation begins with full decontamination and machine polishing until the surface reads correctly under inspection lighting. Only then does the coating go down.

Ivan installs marine-specific systems on gelcoat and topside paint, and automotive-grade coatings on paint, wheels, trim, and glass. Different chemistry, same standard: measured, verified, documented.

The process

How ceramic coating gets done right

  1. 01

    Wash & full decontamination

Iron remover, chemical decon, and clay treatment strip everything bonded to the surface.

  2. 02

    Machine correction

Single or multi-stage polishing removes oxidation, swirls, and haze — verified under inspection light.

  3. 03

    Panel wipe & inspection

Residue-free wipe-down so the coating bonds to a bare, perfect finish.

  4. 04

    Coating installation

Applied panel by panel in controlled sections, leveled, and checked for high spots.

  5. 05

    Cure & handoff

Cure guidance, first-wash timing, and a maintenance plan to protect the investment.

Ceramic Coating FAQ

Good questions

How long does a ceramic coating last on a boat in Florida?

With correct prep and sensible maintenance, marine ceramic systems deliver two to five years of protection — even on hulls that live in the water. Regular fresh-water washdowns extend coating life significantly, which is why most of our coating clients pair it with a maintenance plan.

Is ceramic coating worth it over wax?

In South Florida, yes. Carnauba wax survives weeks in our UV and salt. A professional ceramic coating is a hard, chemically bonded layer that survives years, sheds salt and waterline scum, and keeps gloss you can measure.

How much does ceramic coating cost for a boat?

Boat coatings start at $250 per linear foot, and that figure includes the full decontamination and multi-stage correction underneath, not just the coating. A 34-foot center console starts at $8,500, a 42-foot sportfish at $10,500. A cheaper per-foot coating quote is almost always the coating alone over an uncorrected hull. Cars are priced per vehicle.

Do you coat trailered boats and garage-kept cars too?

Absolutely. Trailered center consoles and garage queens benefit just as much — the coating makes every post-run rinse faster and keeps UV from slowly chalking the finish between uses.
